This Earth Month, Zipcar Unveils the Ultimate Giveaway, “All You Can Zip,” to Enable Sustainable Travel in Cities Nationwide

BOSTON, April 2, 2024 – Who can travel anywhere, anytime while reducing their carbon footprint? Car sharers! This Earth Month, in honor of the impact non-car owners have on the environment, Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network, is unveiling its new “Dream Green” contest that gives three winners “All You Can Zip,” the ultimate sustainable travel package inclusive of a Zipcar membership and driving credit with a local transit and bike-sharing pass for the year. To enter, Zipcar is asking everyone – students, urbanites, car and non-car owners alike – to dream green and answer one question: What would your world look like with fewer cars on the road?

“For Zipcar, every month is Earth Month! To celebrate, we’re offering the benefits of sustainable travel through the ultimate All You Can Zip giveaway, which enables access to drive, bike or take local transit anytime while making a positive impact on the environment by sharing transportation,” said Angelo Adams, head of Zipcar. "Our Zipcar members don’t just dream green, they act green: they make environmentally conscious decisions every day like ‘should I walk, bike, take the T (what we call the subway in Boston), or do I have to drive?’ Their purpose-driven transportation choices, like choosing not to own a car, make them everyday environmental activists who help lead the climate movement by sharing a car, accessing a Zipcar only when they really need to drive.”

How to Enter the Dream Green contest and win All You Can Zip!

As part of the Dream Green contest, Zipcar will award All You Can Zip, a Zipcar membership and driving credit plus a local transit and bike-sharing pass for the year, to three lucky grand prize winners who submit a video, photo and/or written description meaningfully answering one question from Zipcar: “What would your world look like with fewer cars on the road?”

Entries must include a video, photo or write-up (no less than 300 characters) sharing what “your world would look like with fewer cars on the road” and must be submitted to www.zipcar.com/dreamgreen between April 1, 2024, and April 15, 2024. A panel of Zipcar judges will review the submissions, which must demonstrate 1) a clear understanding of why fewer cars on the road helps make a positive environmental or social impact (50% weight) and 2) demonstrate a persuasive, effective outcome within the answer (50% weight). The top three submissions will be announced on Earth Day, Monday, April 22, 2024. The grand prize winners will have the special opportunity to name a Zipcar electric vehicle and receive an official Zipcar plaque certifying their car name.  For official rules, visit www.zipcar.com/dreamgreen

The Impact of Car Sharing on Carbon Emissions

Driven by a mission to enable simple and responsible urban living by reducing personal car ownership, Zipcar envisions a world where car sharers outnumber personal car owners. People who share a car help reduce carbon emissions, congestion and parking demand while providing more space for people (instead of personally owned vehicles). According to Zipcar’s annual North American Transportation Survey:

  • Car sharers reduce their carbon footprint by 1600lbs (nearly one ton!) annually versus car owners because:
    • Car sharers drive on average 40% less than car owners. Car sharers take purpose-driven trips because they choose the right transportation for the right trip (e.g., walking to a convenience store, biking to the library, transit to work and driving for grocery runs, appointments and getaways).
    • Sharing one Zipcar eliminates personally owned cars from the road. Between 50 and 90 members share one Zipcar, eliminating up to 13 personally owned vehicles off the roads.

Founded in 2000, Zipcar solves a real-world need for cities, campuses and businesses by providing environmentally friendly, sustainable transportation.  Car sharers reap the benefits of accessing a vehicle only when they need one – for grocery runs and appointments to visiting friends and family or road trips for weekend getaways – compared to car owners who rack up the costs and hassles of car payments, maintenance, gas and parking while also contributing to climate change.
